The trailer’s just dropped for a new British indie AI sci-fi thriller entitled Blank, from Sparky Pictures – and its plot involves a writer being trapped in an AI-operated writers’ retreat with an unstable android for company, who wants to know if her book is done yet.
As a Stephen King fan, I’m definitely getting slight Misery vibes, and all it’s missing is the android calling the author a lying ol’ dirty birdy. Okay, there’s a bit more missing than that, but I’m still enjoying the parallels and seeing as I’m also a sci-fi fan, I’m really looking forward to this one.
Here’s the official description:
After checking in at an AI-operated writer’s retreat, Claire (Rachel Shelley) finds herself trapped in her unit with a malfunctioning android. As her captor becomes increasingly unstable, she has to outsmart the technology to make it out alive.

The film will be Natalie Kennedy‘s directorial debut (which I’m happy about, as I always want to support new female directors) from a screenplay by Stephen Herman.
This one will be direct-to-VOD in the UK from January 8th, 2024. And, apparently, it’s already out in the US!
Also, if you want to get in the mood, or just fancy watching Misery one more time (or maybe even for the first time), you can check it out on Amazon Prime!
