We have some exciting new details for Alien: Romulus (as it’s rumoured to be called), namely being that the film will take place between Alien and Aliens in the timeline!
The film, directed by Fede Alvarez, is set to be released on August 16th 2024, and will apparently be a lot closer to the original movies than most people were expecting.
How do we know? Well, one of the film’s stars, Cailee Spaeny, spoke to Variety this week, reportedly saying:
It’s supposed to slot in between the first movie and the second movie. They brought the same team from Aliens, the James Cameron film. The same people who built those xenomorphs actually came on and built ours. So getting to see the original design with the original people who have been working on these films for 45-plus years and has been so much of their life has been really incredible.
How cool is that?! And I for one am 100% here for it (and if you know me at all, you’ll know I love me some good old fashioned xenomorph action anyway, by this? It sounds perfect – and released during my birthday month! Even better)
Okay, so let’s get real for a second and look at the timeline. If you’re already a fan of the franchise, you’ll probably know the time period between the first film (1979) and the second (1986) is actually 57 story years. That’s almost six decades, and a LOT can happen during that time!
What we know is that Planet LV-426 was populated as part of a terraforming mission. Will Alien: Romulus focus on something to do with that, or will it take place in a totally different location? I’m willing to bet it might be the former, otherwise why not follow Noah Hawley‘s route of taking the story much further into the present.
Welp, I guess we’ll find out. Am I nervous? Maybe a little, and I know I cannot WAIT for this to hit cinemas.
What do you think of the latest Alien: Romulus news? Are you excited to see where Alvarez takes the story – or a bit nervous?
