The Merry Mushmen are back on Kickstarter, and fans will be happy to see issue Four of the OSR weirdo zine Knock!
I’m not an OSR fan, but I am a fan of Knock! It’s hard to fully describe the quality on offer without showing you the 200+ page zine, and that likely explains the pitch video that shows you snippets. You can back, see progress or heap praise on the funding page.
Knock! 4 is a Compendium of Miscellanea for Old-School RPGs. We’re told; back or be damned.
Olivier Revenue, who describes himself as a game designer and a kamikaze paraglider (I’m glad he’s successful at only one of those two), says that KNOCK! Issue 4 is ready to go to press.
Regulars know the formula: no theme, all mean. Once again, The Merry Mushmen have cobbled together a bric-à-brac of game design insight, random tables, rules suggestions, monsters, classes, maps, adventures… the lot.
A short series (12 pages) has also been added aimed at post-WotC meltdown 5E refugees (or just your friends you’d like to bring to the adventure gaming side of the divide).
The book is 212 pages (A5 format: 5.9′ x 8.25′, slightly bigger than digest size) in beautiful full colour, printed on quality paper (coated 130 gr, with a cover on coated 300 gr) by Olivier’s neighbours in the South Basque country.
Traditionally, The Merry Mushmen keep the pledges straightforward, and for €15 this time, backers get a PDF copy of the zine as a thank you.
At €26, not much more, there’s also a print copy of the book. I mean, at well over 200 pages, it’s too much of a zine!
If you need two copies, as some groups will want, then pledge €46 for a slight economy of scale and for ten copies, pledge €170.
Except for the ten books in one, The Merry Mushmen is expected to ship by January 2024, and the Kickstarter wraps up on the 22nd.
