What do you get when you put Hideo Kojima and Jordan Peele together to work on a new video game project? We’re not exactly sure yet, but this strange new teaser trailer for OD will give you a first look.
OD stars It actress Sophia Lillis along with Hunter Schafer, and the teaser definitely sets a weird, uncomfortable and downright bloody creepy tone. So… what is it? We have no details on the story yet, but…
OD explores the concept of testing your fear threshold, and what it means to OD on fear – while blurring the boundaries of gaming and film.
Kojima is known for creating games that can be a little bit… well, ‘out there’ (think Death Stranding, and the Metal Gear Solid games). And Peele is, of course, known for popular horror movies NOPE and Get Out amongst others.
I am honestly pretty intrigued by what the two of them are going to create together – and a little excited if trepidatious, to be completely honest.
Here’s what Kojima had to say in a statement:
We are working with Xbox Game Studios and their cloud gaming technology to take on the challenge of creating a very unique, immersive, and totally new style of game – or rather, a new form of media.
Previously, Kojima had talked about going back into horror, and mentioned some revolutionary ideas that would creep people out to the max.
I’m easily frightened myself, so I have confidence that I could create something more terrifying than perhaps others could. I get frightened of things like darkness and imagine shadows of ghosts in the dark.
P.T. ended as just an experiment, but I would like to make another horror game someday. Something that uses a revolutionary method to create terror, that doesn’t just make you pee your pants, but crap them. I already have ideas in mind.
Hmmm. It all sounds pretty intriguing, however you should know that OD is going to be published by Xbox Game Studios, and it will also be an Xbox console exclusive.
We don’t have a release date yet, but stay tuned!
