Before the Hollywood strikes, Dune: Part 2 was going to be released in November 2023. I do not begrudge a single person involved in those strikes even the slightest bit.
I am, however, much saddened that this particular version of events pushed the conclusion to Denis Villeneuve‘s take on Frank Herbert‘s much-loved scifi novel even further out.
We were lucky, 20 years ago, just having to wait one year between The Lord Of the Rings movies. For Dune we have been waiting over two. To say I am champing at the bit would be an understatement.
And I reference that labour of love for good reason – for Dune is science fiction’s Lord of the Rings. It seems, from today’s trailer, it will be worth the wait.
For those who haven’t seen the first part, well stop reading and fix that immediately; please and thank you! For the rest of us, watch the official third trailer below.
The second trailer was released at the end of June, when the release date hadn’t yet moved. Another trailer to keep us hooked and excited at this point is obviously just smart marketing.
And I’d be cynical about it, but I’m honestly too happy to see anything Dune related at this point. I mean, I’ve already asked Santa for all the Dune merch he can bring me for Christmas.
I totally need a pack of Dune-themed playing cards, right?
Dune: Part 2 will be released in cinemas on March 1st, 2024.
