A new trailer has just dropped for inappropriate student/teacher relationship thriller Miller’s Girl, starring Martin Freeman (Sherlock, Fargo) as the teacher, and Wednesday star Jenna Ortega as the student.
I’ve watched it, and I’m intrigued because it seems packed full of smouldering tension and foreboding. The woods play a noticeable part in this trailer, which has me wondering if someone’s going to end up dead in them at some point (maybe that’s just me and I’ve watched one thriller/horror too many).
The film also features Dagmara Domińczyk, Bashir Salahuddin, Gideon Adlon, and Christine Adams.
The film itself has been written and directed by Jade Halley Bartlett – notably, her feature directorial debut, so let’s support that – and produced by Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, James Weaver, Josh Fagen, and Mary-Margaret Kunze.
Here’s the official synopsis:
A talented young writer (Ortega) embarks upon a creative odyssey when her professor (Freeman) assigns a project that entangles them both in an increasingly complex web. As lines blur and their lives intertwine, professor and protégé must confront their darkest selves while straining to preserve their individual sense of purpose and the things they hold most dear.

Okay, so it feels like this story has been done and done again, but… something about this just caught my eye, and I’m hoping it’ll bring something new to the table. I have a good feeling about it.
Miller’s Girl is set to premiere at the 2024 Palm Springs Film Festival next month, and it’ll also be available in selected cinemas from January 26th. Sign me up!
