John Krasinski is bringing us IF, a movie about a teenage girl who can suddenly see all the abandoned Imaginary Friends (“IFs”) in the world. It’s through Paramount, but has a distinctly Disney/Pixar feel to it with a mix of live action, and CGI animated IFs.
Starring Ryan Reynolds (Deadpool/ your straight boyfriend’s celebrity “freebie” list) and backed up by what is basically a Who’s Who of every funny person in Hollywood (Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Awkwafina, Sam Rockwell and, for some reason, Matt Damon as well.)
This looks like a fun movie with plenty of opportunity for visual jokes for the small ones, and witty verbal quips for the adults. Take a look:
I’m automatically signed up for pretty much anything Ryan Reynolds does, these days. The man is a walking franchise for snarky adult geeks who don’t mind getting emotional in public. But if you’ve got a small geek, this looks like a good opportunity for some parent-child bonding over something very silly.
IF is expected to be released for May 24th, 2024.
Will you be looking out for this one next year? What was your Imaginary Friend as a kid and how scared would you be to see them now?
