If, like me, you’ve enjoyed the live-action One Piece and have been thinking about checking out the anime, but are a little overwhelmed at it being over 1,000 episodes long, YOU’RE IN LUCK!!!
Yes, Netflix are really doing an anime remake of a live-action show, based on an anime, based on a manga. And they’re calling it The One Piece – so as not to confuse it with the two other shows.
The news was announced at Jump Festa 2024, and what we know so far is that it’ll start off with the same ‘East Blue’ saga watchers of the live-action show will have become familiar with.
WIT Studio – known for Spy x Family – are behind this new adaptation, and apart from that it’s anyone’s guess what else this show is going to bring to the table.
According to a press release from Netflix and WIT, the show will be distinct enough from the original One Piece anime (which has just started season 21), and “provide viewers with a fresh yet familiar experience, utilizing cutting-edge visual technology to reimagine Luffy’s adventures through the beloved East Blue saga.”
It’d be very cool if this new adaptation will find a way to include Toei voice actors in the same way as the live-action show did.
However, that’s not all Netflix has planned for One Piece; it also revealed at Jump Fest that it’s releasing a One Piece prequel entitled Monsters, focusing on the story of a famous swordsman named Ryuma. That one is coming out next month! Here’s the poster:
