Willem Dafoe has recently discussed Robert Eggers’ remake of Nosferatu, his role in it and what he’s seen so far – and we’ve also got a first look of his character in the movie, Professor Albin Eberhart von Franz!
During an interview with IndieWire, Dafoe teased that the movie isn’t quite like anything he’d ever seen before, which is exciting to learn. Entertainment Weekly also recently shared this photo of Dafoe in full charater:
And here’s what Dafoe had to say about director Robert Eggers:
[Eggers] gets better and better and better, gets more articulate, more on top of it. He’s so clear when he works. It opens in December of next year, which is a long time away. Trying to be an optimist, I think the studio must feel very strong about it, because that’s quite a tough slot, so I’m excited about that. I saw some footage when we were shooting, and I can honestly say, visually, it was like unlike anything I have seen. … The look of it and how it was shot was extraordinary.
Dafoe also gave a little more insight about his character, by saying he’s “kind of a Van Helsing type of character, but not exactly. So, he’s true to the source in some ways but also invented in some ways.”
Eggers has also referred to von Franz as a “crazy vampire hunter” and one he’s “always loved and related to”. Hmmm, I think this is going to be a fab role for Dafoe to portray, and as a fan, I can’t wait!
Nosferatu will be out in cinemas on December 25, 2024.
