Webcomic and audio play creator Bootleg Bird is working on a tabletop RPG called Birds & Boroughs.
The Quick Start Guide & Campaign has been available on DriveThruRPG for a few months, with some progress notes on patreon and Facebook.
In this roleplaying game, characters are birds, and the initiative turn system is known as the Pecking Order. Ha!
The system has levels and hit points, characters have Speed, Defense, Actions and Attack stats, and bird Species have different bonuses. Waders are good in water, whereas Perchers are good at climbing.
The RPG needs one BM, that’s Bird Master, and is intended for 2 to 6 players and games that last a few sessions. At least, that’s the Quick Start Guide.

Once the kingdom capital was magically sealed away, this land of birds and burrowers was forced to move from monarchy to municipalities. The Borough Guard attempts to keep the peace, but Avians and Fossors alike face many challenges – aside from each other! A mind-controlling fungus spreads from an unknown source deep in the woods, a greedy platoon of warriors runs down travelers in the west, a shadowy society holds rituals to an otherworldly being, and whispers come from beneath the ground itself.
These are just a glimmer of what adventures lie at your feathertips in this changing land. What will you seek out?
There are magic and magical PCs in the game and a sense of strategy and peril with suitably involved mechanics to support some planning.
Explore vast and varied environments, solve puzzles, and beat up baddies in turn-based battles. Pick up a weapon style and stick with it to increase your proficiency! Choose a magic class and customize your combat options with dozens of moves. And if the going gets tough, you can seek a perch to regain some health, or even take flight and become harder to hit!
