We’re delighted to announce that Scotland Loves Anime audience choice winner Blue Giant is coming to selected cinemas across the UK and Ireland from January 31st, 2024!
Adapted from the beloved manga by Shinichi Ishizuka, and directed Yuzuru Tachikawa (Mob Psycho 100), Blue Giant tells the story of Dai Miyamoto, a high school student who discovers jazz and wants to become the world’s greatest jazz musician, leaving his hometown to try and make it big in Tokyo.
It’s all about his struggle and the friendships he makes along the way.
Here’s the official synopsis:
Dai Miyamoto’s life is turned upside down the day he discovers jazz. A former high school basketball player, Dai picks up a saxophone and begins practising day and night, determined to become one of the greatest of all time. He leaves his sleepy hometown for the bustling nightclubs of Tokyo, but soon finds the life of a professional musician is not for the faint of heart. His passion eventually wins over the cocky but talented pianist Yukinori, and after Dai convinces his friend Shunji to learn the drums, they launch a new jazz trio whose rough sound contains a raw energy that quickly wins attention from local audiences. But what does it take to truly be great?
I’m really happy about this. Although Girdy covered a big number of films over Scotland Loves Anime, Blue Giant was the only SLA film I went along to watch at the Cameo in Edinburgh – and it was a solid choice!
The film made quite an impression on me, and you can read my full review here:
Blue Giant is set to be released in selected cinemas across the UK and Ireland from 31st January 2024 in Japanese with English subtitles.
