In Pathfinder, the Wayfinder is an artefact that repurposes ancient technology so that Pathfinder Society members draw on aeon stone power.
Now, Type 40, an award-winning Australian design studio, has collaborated with Paizo to bring a replica Wayfinder (a functional compass) to Kickstarter.
The campaign launched on Boxing Day, a day after Christmas, and asked for AU$45,000 to fund. That’s about £24,000. A tough ask? The goal was met in six hours.
The Wayfinder will be part of Pathfinder Society Organised Play and count as an “other item” accessory, so holders will get free heals between encounters.
Cast in weighty brass and zinc, the compass whispers of ancient journeys. Arcane symbols dance on its bezel, guiding the needle across a custom face. Inside, a starry enamel night sky reflects Golarion’s celestial tapestry. That’s right, this compass is intended for collectors and hardcore fans.
The Glyph of the Open Road, which is the symbol of both the Grand Lodge and the Society as a whole, appears on the base of the base. The cover has a removable Aeon Stone in a brass mount.
The Wayfinder Compass is an essential tool and badge of office for agents of Golarion’s premier adventurer organization, the Pathfinder Society. Manufactured by the arcane crafter Muesello at the Society’s Oppara Lodge, Wayfinders not only provide adventurers with a reliable navigation tool, but also a convenient way to draw power from a variety of magical Aeon Stones.
Backers who pledge £73, plus shipping, will be thanked with an adventurer edition of the Wayfinder Compass. This first supporter tier also allows backers to buy into the Aeon Stone booster set.
There’s a scary 20-pack for retailers, and all the other tiers are sold out. That’s not just the early bird but the limited edition deluxe Wayfinder, which required supporters to find AU$ 1,425.
The campaign runs until January 16th, and the estimated delivery for the Wayfinder Compass is May 2024.
