Today we have an intriguing trailer for new movie Abigail. It starts out looking like a simple thriller, with a young ballerina, Alisha Weir (Matilda The Musical) being kidnapped and held in a spooky old house, overnight. The ransom demands are apparently $50 million… but all is not as it seems.
Watch the trailer so I don’t spoil the twist.
She’s not locked in there with them; they’re locked in there with her.
I’m really impressed with the cast list. Aside from the wonderful Alisha – who it is clear we do not want to be on the wrong side of as an adult – there’s Dan Stevens (Downton Abbey), Melissa Barrera (Scream franchise), and Kathryn Newton (Freaky). Not to mention Giancarlo Esposito (Breaking Bad) who is obviously someone you don’t want to trust even slightly.
There’s a slight touch of the ridiculous to the trailer, and I’m hoping that carries through to the final movie. It feels like the sort of movie you see with mates and laugh along at the gory silliness.
Abigail is in post-production, and is expected in theatres on April 19th, 2024.
