Bloat Games, the publisher of indie RPG hits like SURIVE THIS!!, and Dark Places & Demogorgons, has met Kickstarter campaign targets for Evolved. Evolved is a superhero RPG powered by Goodman Games’ Dungeon Crawl Classics.
The self-contained RPG has hundreds of backers and is well over the £13,000 funding goal, but print copies are (for now) restricted to the United States of America. You can see progress and options on Kickstarter.
Evolved is a dark superhero game in that the super-powered people are the result of an energy leak from time travel portals and a frightening future.
Along with the required DCC rules, Evolved offers new occupations, and prosperity dice rules for purchases, a Path system alternative to languages, character gen systems for the present and future, new classes, powers, fortune token systems, villains, allies, monsters and more.
The 600+ page book deliberately invokes the art style of DCC so that they sit side by side comfortably on your shelf.
Those passing through time portals found that they were transported into the future of the year 2051 … and the future depicted was frightening. The world had changed so much as to begin to be unrecognizable, with war and strife rampant, and the Evolved finding themselves hunted and destroyed or captured by robots and cyborgs created by humans who feared them, used and controlled by their governments as leverage against other factions, and leading rebellions against the humans to demonstrate their perceived superiority in a bid for power. Nuclear war, biological and gene warfare, cloning vats, and other things out of science fiction, including aliens bent on domination and their own internal conflicts, had come to the world en force, creating chaos and bedlam.
Backers who pledge $24 or more will get a PDF copy of Evolved Core Rules and some add-on options.
At $39, backers get the core rules in PDF and the 5 Adventure Bundle in PDF.
The print copy of the game unlocks as a reward at $60. It comes with the PDF, but shipping is restricted to the USA.
Adventure Bundles, in PDF and print, are added for backers at $125, and the pledges go higher after that. $180 adds the ‘Kickstarter Exclusive Retro-De-make Cover – Evolved – Super Heroic’. Beyond that, retail.
The campaign closes on January 31, and Bloat Games estimates the TTRPG project will deliver around October 24.
