Late last year, the news broke that the exciting new kid on the RPG block, Evil Genius Games, was suing Netflix over the Rebel Moon TTRPG.
They say that Netflix had pulled out of the project, upset over the GAMA previews Evil Genius had shared. Evil Genius had been secretly working on the roleplaying game, but the publisher insists they had permission to share those previews at GAMA.
Now the legal squabble is over, and there won’t be a Rebel Moon RPG from Evil Genius; retailers who had pre-ordered will be refunded.
Netflix released the following statement;
The parties are pleased that they were able to amicably resolve this dispute. Netflix thanks Evil Genius for their hard work and professionalism.”
There’s no press release in Netflix’s newsroom on this, and the quote above comes via Evil Genius, so if Netflix added any more context, Geek Native does not yet have it!
Evil Genius is now expected to announce another sci-fi project. Netflix is pushing on with Part Two of Zack Synder’s sci-fi with The Scargiver.
The Cinematic Adventures line from Evil Genius, which includes sci-fi classics like Pacific Rim and Total Recall, will also expand (perhaps with the sci-fi above). Evil Genius will be providing Cinematic Adventures content as the first partner of the new non-profit Organised Play Foundation.
