When someone in a movie survives a horrible experience, we don’t typically see how they deal with it afterwards. In Somewhere Quiet, we see how Meg, played by Jennifer Kim (She Dies Tomorrow), deals with surviving a brutal, six-month kidnapping.
This looks like a disturbing, extremely suspenseful psychological thriller/horror, and I’m keen to see what happens. The experiences of any survivor of trauma can be extremely distressing, so it’s interesting that this is a take we don’t often see on screen. And of course, it’s not nearly as straightforward as initially presented!
Somewhere Quiet also stars Kentucky Audley (Strawberry Mansion) as Meg’s husband, Scott; and Marin Ireland (The Umbrella Academy) as his overbearing cousin, Madelin.
There are a lot of questions raised in the trailer, but I’m worried I’m falling into a trap by thinking I know the answers! Is Madelin really Scott’s cousin? Who kidnapped Meg? Is it really ‘always the husband’?
The movie was premiered last June at the Tribeca Film Festival, but there’s no word about a UK release date. With this trailer release from distributor Vertical, I’m hopeful we won’t be waiting much longer.
