RPG designer Snow, who has previously released games through the publishing identity “John Battle”, has hit the funding goal for the next edition of Songbirds in a short but punch Kickstarter.
There are actually two new editions, blue and red, up for grabs in this former Sworddream Movement RPG, and you can see the details on the pitch page.
As Snow explains, you can already get the third edition of Songbirds in PDF. It’s not free; it’s name your own price.
Note that the campaign finishes on the 10th of February, as it’s a short run.
Once a hack of the NSR’ Into the Odd, Songbirds uses “d20 + Skill” as as system, with lots of d10 and challenges thrown in to make for a deadly game.
The result is an adventure that discourages head-to-head violence due to the fear of death or your memories being overloaded with the thoughts of the people you’ve killed.
We’re told plainly that Songbirds can be weird, too. Weird and dangerous.
Dungeon delving and adventuring are hard work. Darkness is a living, breathing thing that can stalk you. Spirits can be so big you can only target individual limbs and pray you hit. Time distorts when you’re under the earth for too long. You might take so much damage you wake up in The Cave, the afterlife of this setting. Or maybe something much, much more strange will happen.
Backers offering $20 or more will get PDFs of both Songbirds: Blue and Songbirds: Red. The only way to get the PDF of Red is through the Kickstarter.
Those who can pledge $50 or more can pick either Songbirds: Blue or Songbirds: Red as a physical book reward.
It’s $100 for both, as that’s how maths work. Alternatively, backers can pledge $100 and get a single signed copy of Blue or Red. Not surprisingly, it’s $200 to get both copies signed.
The estimated delivery is as early as July 2024 and note that shipping is calculated later.
