Good news, Death Stranding fans! Sam is back, and ready for a new adventure in Death Stranding 2, and we have a wild ride of a 9-minute + second trailer for you to watch – if you’re up to the challenge.
The trailer, in true Hideo Kojima style, is a little bit crazy, and harkens me back to when the trailer for the first game was released – me watching it with a colleague and thinking ‘what even’. Same with this one, and despite having a good idea of what to expect from Death Stranding now, I love that there’s still that element to it.
There’s a bit more insight in this trailer than the first one, but all the intriguing little details make this trailer a typical Hideo Kojima fun time! It seems to be saying; “Want to know what’s going on? You’ll have to play it and see!” but bear in mind this is coming from someone who doesn’t know what all happened in the first game (more about that below).
I also like that there’s a really tender moment in the footage. Here’s the official description:
Embark on an inspiring mission of human connection beyond the UCA. Sam—with companions by his side—sets out on a new journey to save humanity from extinction. Join them as they traverse a world beset by otherworldly enemies, obstacles and a haunting question: should we have connected? Step by step, legendary game creator Hideo Kojima changes the world once again.
Kojima apparently wrote the story for the sequel before the covid-19 pandemic, but later ended up totally rewriting it because he lightheartedly claimed he “didn’t want to predict the future”.

Interestingly, the game will be released exclusively on PlayStation 5 sometime in 2025. I’m tempted, but Death Stranding is one of those games I haven’t completed yet, and realistically (but sadly) may never go back to, due to the sheer lack of time.
Which is a shame, because my second time playing from the beginning, I actually really enjoyed it, being in a bit of a better place mentally and feeling both braver in terms of choices, and less affected by the overall feel of the game (it’s maybe not the best thing to play when already in a dark place!).
Regardless, I’m happy to see Sam back and embarking on a new adventure.
