I should have recognised the brand Forgotten Lore, but when I first saw the pitch for a systems-neutral world-building with a Celtic theme, I assumed it might be a North American publisher writing about Scotland.
Nope, it’s an Irish publisher writing about Celtic mythology. Forgotten Lore has a track record; there are free samples which prove it, and this book has been funded quickly on Kickstarter.
Systems neutral means you can use D&D’s 5e for the world brought to life by Celtic Collections or any one of your choices. The book offers spells, but you can ignore them.

The finished book of (no longer) forgotten Celtic-inspired world will have;
- 100 one-page layouts
- 20 locations
- 20 NPCs
- 20 sets of weapons and armour
- 20 magic items
- 20 spells
Each page is a meticulously crafted window into a different aspect of a rich, Celtic-inspired world. Every location, from mystical towns to sacred groves, every NPC, from valiant warriors to wise sages, each weapon, armor, magical item, and spell is presented on its own distinct page with it’s own history, lore, characteristics and key stats. This layout offers a concise yet comprehensive snapshot, allowing for easy integration into your gaming sessions. Each page is not just a description but a story, a piece of a grand tapestry, waiting to be explored and woven into your adventures.
Backers pledging €10 or more, about £9, will get Celtic Collections in PDF as a thank-you reward.
At €22, backers will also get a previous Kickstarter, Celtic Adventures, as well as Celtic Collections as a reward. Alternatively, rather than Adventures, it could be Celtic Chronicles or Celtic Monstrosities.
There are no print options but backers pledging €40 or more, as many have done, get all four PDFs as rewards.
The Galway-based publisher wraps the Kickstarter on February 24th and aims to deliver as early as March 2024. It’s worth noting that AI is used for parts of images.
