Horror fans may be thrilled to learn an Evil Dead spinoff film is in development with Sébastien Vaniček directing, and Sam Raimi producing through his company Ghost House Pictures.
Vaniček is perhaps best known for directing Infested, which won of “Best Picture” and “Best Director” at the awards for Fantastic Fest.
We don’t know a lot more about the project for now, but Evil Dead franchise actor and producer Bruce Campbell has recently spoken out about how we can be expecting more content, more frequently, after Evil Dead Rise‘s success.
According to Deadline, Campbell said:
We’re going to do them probably more like every two to three years now, rather than every 10 years. But, hey, we’ve seen with Star Wars – you don’t want to wear people out. Keep them guessing! We never wore out our welcome with Evil Dead because we never choked them.
Interestingly, he went on to say that Raimi and his brother were working on an Evil Dead bible for other filmmakers to use:
It’s also the first time Sam is working with his brother Ivan to create an overall Bible that will give future writers and directors an idea of where this thing should go next to potentially tie in some of these stories. So I think it’s going to get a little more tied in as the years go by. But because it’s all about the books. It could be a book in the past, a book in the future. It’s yet to be determined.
I am tentatively welcoming this news, and appreciate the fact a ‘bible’ is now underway to try and keep things true to the franchise. We’ll see where it takes us!
