Croak & Dagger are a new Canadian tabletop publisher with a bold Zine Quest pitch for Wurm. We’re promised a roleplaying board game of vile horror and glory.
A roleplaying board game, defined early by Croak & Dagger, blends core RPG elements with board game mechanics to support short one-offs or campaigns. The target funding goal has been met; at the time of writing, there’s time on the clock for many more backers to succumb to the darkness.
In Wurm, the PCs are Wanderers in endless wastes forced to carve valuable parts from fallen foes to survive until the next but dangerous reward of arcane secrets.
The system uses 2d6 with 8s or up as a success. The odds are stacked. A roll of snake eyes means there are Complications, the Threat level increases, and the PC gets Experience to spend. A Stress system allows PCs to swap failure for success but, of course, at a growing cost.
Uncover disturbing lore and unspeakable monsters as you explore the wastelands in gameplay modules built to challenge your table and introduce you to the world of Wurm. With your pledge, you’ll have access to 5 Campaign Scenarios, including Beneath Black Sands and The Covenant of Broken Stones.
Backers who pledge CA$10 or more (£6 or so) get the PDF rules and the PDF character sheets, card assets, the battle board and the digital stretch goals that unlock.
At CA$22, the physical rulebook and all the loot from the previous tier are added.
The physical battle board, cards deck and assets are layered in at CA$44, and that’s the top tier. There are no add-ons. It’s simple.
The Kickstarter runs until March 2nd, and Wurm is slated for a January 2025 release to backers.
