The trailers are coming thick and fast tonight, and we can barely keep up here at Geek Native. Universal Pictures has just revealed its first look at the upcoming screen adaptation of Wicked, and it looks like it’s going to be a fantastical and very epic adaptation!
The part of Elphaba is being played by Cynthia Erivo, while Ariana Grande takes on the role of Glinda. Also starring in the film we have Jonathan Bailey (Broadchurch and Crashing) as Fiyero, not to mention Michelle Yeoh as Madame Morrible! The part of The Wizard is being played by Jeff Goldblum, because of course it is.
The film is going to be told in two parts, with director Jon M. Chu saying of that decision:
We decided to give ourselves a bigger canvas and make not just one Wicked movie but two! With more space, we can tell the story of Wicked as it was meant to be told while bringing even more depth and surprise to the journeys for these beloved characters.
Watch the first-look trailer for Wicked: Part 1 below – if you’re a fan of the musical, I doubt you’ll be disappointed.
Wicked: Part 1 is set for release in cinemas on Friday, 27th November.
