Inspired by the like of Chuck Tingle and driven to break society’s rules about how we talk about sex, Octopus Apocalypse, the TTRPG designer, has nearly hit funding goals for Dinosaur Erotica: The Role-Playing Game on Kickstarter.
The TTRPG offers absurd romance for two (or more) players. Previous projects from Octopus Apocalypse include 3 Racoons in a Trench Coat, Satanic Panic: The Role-Playing Game and Cosmic Hooligans. You can track the dinosaurs via the pitch page.
Firstly, this is Amazon’s page for Chuck Tingle books to prove this is a genre. The author isn’t affiliated (probably – their identity remains a mystery) with this dinosaur project, but he is an inspiration.
Dinosaur Erotica can be played in duet mode, with a GM and one player, or collaboratively.
The pitch on Kickstarter describes the rules as simple-ish but spends more attention setting out the author’s goal of challenging social norms in a safe space.
There are random tables with unusual situations in them, and we can imagine what. The rules themselves are structured to guide the blooming romance.
It’s the kind of setting where it’s perfectly normal for the billionaire astronaut who just hired you as his secretary to also be a dinosaur, your childhood friend who’s now the local bartender in your old hometown to be the ghost of a pirate squid, or to find after several years that your TV has been harboring secret romantic feeling for you. That’s right friends, it’s so much more than just dinosaurs!
Backers at the $15 level get a PDF copy of Dinosaur Erotica: The Role-Playing Game as a reward.
There’s international shipping, a physical copy, and a PDF with a backer credit at the $20 tier.
The “Gentleman’s Edition Zine” and two community copies, with the PDF and backer credit, make up the $55 tier. The “Gentleman’s Edition” is a special copy of the game as it’s hand-signed, numbered and monocles may have been doodled onto the dinosaurs.
There’s even a $1,000 tier for anyone with a mysterious benefacto fantasy but it does have an extra special edition and portrait attached.
The campaign runs until March 15th and the books are due out in August, so your life may be free of raunchy dinosaur encounters until then.
