Evil Hat and Crystal Dynamics announced a new Tomb Raider tabletop RPG called Shadows of Truth. Playtesting will open soon, with news from the Society of Raiders and an ENTERTHETOMB coupon for US shoppers that unlocks 20% off Evil Hat purchases.
The game will be crowdfunded, although, as we’ll see in a bit, there will be pushback from the insecure.
This officially licensed tabletop RPG thrusts you into the role of the Truth Seekers, daring peers of Lara Croft, on a quest to expose hidden knowledge and protect powerful relics from falling into the wrong hands.
Characters will explore forgotten ruins, decipher cryptic clues, and outwit dangerous foes in a race against time. Games will uncover secrets shrouded in darkness and confront the consequences of the players’ choices.
Evil Hat says play needs:
- 3-6 players driven by adventure
- Pencils, paper, the rulebook, and a handful of six-sided dice
- Craft gadgets, decipher codes, survive in the wild, or stand by your team. Play as a Crafter, Scholar, Hunter, and other classes.
- One player to become the Keeper of Truths, weaving a thrilling narrative as your team uncovers the mysteries that await.
The lead designer is the talented Rae Nedjadi, with contributing designers including Josh Hittie, Sean Nittner, Sebastian Yūe, Agatha Cheng, April Kit Walsh, Fred Hicks, Brandon O’Brien, Liam Stevens and Tali Inlow.
The insecure fans
The official Tomb Raider Facebook page also shared the news. How do you think it went?
In truth, most fans are supportive, but some of the insecure comments are enough to make you wonder. There’s some pushback from Lara Croft herself not featuring, but then there are others who don’t like that there’s like, you know, different people on the cover.
Second Tomb Raider RPG
There’s already been a Tomb Raider RPG and an official one. Lara Croft’s Tomb Raiders was an in-house passion project that got the nod from management and made a free download.
