The cast of hit Netflix series Breaking Bad reunited after 10 years at the SAG awards to present the award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series (which was ultimately won by HBO‘s Succession) – and treated fans by the way they did it.
The SAG awards saw the cast of Vince Gilligan‘s Breaking Bad, including Bryan Cranston, Aaron Paul, Bob Odenkirk, Anna Gunn, Dean Norris, RJ Mitte, Betsy Brandt, and Jonathan Banks get up on stage and have a bit of fun by breaking from the ‘bad’ teleprompter script.
You can watch it below, or read a short roundup underneath.
The cast were apparently meant to read out the word ‘ensemble’, with each actor talking about what their given letter represented. Gunn started proceedings by saying that ‘E’ represents “the excellence that each cast member brings to every exciting episode”. Off to a smooth start!
Then Odenkirk decided to make his thoughts on the word ‘N’ an opportunity to break free from the cheesy script, with: “‘N’ stands for ‘No, no f***ing way I’m doing this cheesy thing where you say each letter of the word, I’m not doing it.”
In response to this, Paul pointed to the prompter and said “I think we have to,”, whilst Norris contributed with: “Eh, teleprompter my ass. I’ve got a beer and a couple of shots backstage. So let’s get this thing going.”
Mitte chimed in with: “No, Bob’s right. My grandma wouldn’t even put this on a pillow; it’s so cheesy.” But then Brandt came up with: “Listen, you guys, I don’t mean to start ‘T-for-trouble,’ but what do you think SAG would do to us if we didn’t do this?”
Banks had the best response of: “It’s an awards show for Chrissakes. They can’t fire us, so f*ck ’em!”
As a Breaking Bad fan, this was such a treat for me to watch! I hope it is for you, too.
