Since the screen adaptation of Mean Girls: The Musical was first released last month – updated for 2024, obviously – and it’s been doing pretty well. Now directors Samantha Jayne and Arturo Perez Jr. have expressed their desire to set their sights on another adaptation. This time, Hamilton!
Can you imagine? A screen adaptation of one of the most successful Broadway musicals of all time – of course, I’d be 100% here for it!
Jayne and Perez Jr. recently shared their thoughts with ComicBook about their likely next move, and they mentioned perhaps directing Hamilton. According to Perez Jr.:
Hamilton. Alexander Hamilton. We’re screaming it from the treetops like he would. But unless maybe Lin wants to direct it, but … That would be amazing. That would be an incredible thing, too. But if he doesn’t want to direct it… We’re not throwing away our shot.
I’m honestly surprised if Lin-Manuel Miranda hasn’t at least been approached or even just thought about directing an adaptation of Hamilton, and I’m thinking a movie version of the musical has to happen at some point – I mean, it’s too big not to, am I right?
I’m a HUGE fan of the musical (actually seeing it live for the first time in a couple of months, having completely fallen in love with the Disney+ recording), and I think it would be even more of a hit than Wicked – which is already expected to do pretty well at the box office.
What do you think; would seeing Hamilton adapted for the big screen make your day? Let me know your thoughts in the comments.
