NASA – yes, I’m talking about that NASA – has just released its first 5E-compatible TTRPG adventure, and it’s all about encouraging learning whilst going on a sci-fi adventure to find the Hubble telescope! It’s called The Lost Universe, and it sounds super fun – and what’s more, it’s completely free.
Here’s the brief synopsis to help set the scene:
It’s time to gather your party and your favorite tabletop role-playing game system. A dark mystery has settled over the city of Aldastron on the rogue planet of Exlaris. Researchers dedicated to studying the cosmos have disappeared, and the Hubble Space Telescope has vanished from Earth’s timeline. Only an ambitious crew of adventurers can uncover what was lost. Are you up to the challenge?
NASA’s first TTRPG adventure invites you to take on a classic villain (while also using and learning science skills!) as you overcome challenges and embark on an exciting quest to unlock more knowledge about our universe.
Yes, NASA – I’m up to the challenge! The Lost Universe was designed by Christina Mitchell, senior production specialist at the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center in Maryland, and contains 43 pages of excitement and intrigue set in a fantasy city called Aldastron, on the rogue planet of Exlaris!
Basically, NASA has somehow managed to lose not only its Hubble telescope, but also some astronomical researchers – clumsy! NASA needs YOU and your gang of curious explorers to get to the bottom of this mystery, quicksmart.
The Lost Universe is designed for 4 -7 players with characters of level 7+, and it should take around a four-hour session to complete the whole thing.
The game comes with an instructional booklet, the below map of Aldastron, and a The Lost Universe poster – all of which can be downloaded separately right here. How cool is that?!
Got to admit, I love anything space/sci-fi-related, so count me in! I actually can’t wait to play this. And you can download the full game documents via NASA’s own website right now, for FREE.
