Universal Pictures just dropped an absolutely SPECTACULAR trailer for the upcoming DreamWorks animated movie The Wild Robot – and on first inspection, it seems they got absolutely everything right on this one.
The enchanting sci-fi/nature adventure “follows the journey of a robot—ROZZUM unit 7134, ‘Roz’ for short — that is shipwrecked on an uninhabited island and must learn to adapt to the harsh surroundings, gradually building relationships with the animals on the island and becoming the adoptive parent of an orphaned gosling.”
According to DreamWorks, it’s a story about “the discovery of self, a thrilling examination of the bridge between technology and nature and a moving exploration of what it means to be alive and connected to all living things”.
The trailer has an incredible vibe, and for a movie without any humans – just a robot surviving in nature – it seems incredibly heartfelt and wholesome. Who needs humans, anyway?! I’m so taken with this trailer from first watch, just… check it out below, you’ll see what I mean:
Starring in The Wild Robot we have an all-star cast, including Lupita Nyong’o (Us, Black Panther) as robot Roz; Pedro Pascal (The Last of Us, The Mandalorian) as fox Fink; Catherine O’Hara (Schitt’s Creek, Best in Show) as opossum Pinktail; Bill Nighy (Living, Love Actually) as goose Longneck; Kit Connor (Heartstopper, Rocketman) as gosling Brightbill and Stephanie Hsu (Everything Everywhere All at Once, The Fall Guy) as Vontra, another robot!
Also lending their voices to the movie are Mark Hamill (Star Wars franchise), Matt Berry (What We Do in the Shadows) and Ving Rhames (Mission: Impossible, Pulp Fiction) – as to what their roles are, it’s a mystery for now!
The film was written and directed by Chris Sanders (How to Train Your Dragon, The Croods, and Lilo & Stitch), and I cannot wait for this – but unfortunately, I’ll have to, as it’s out 20th September 2024.
Excited is an understatement.
What do you think of the first trailer for The Wild Robot? Are you as excited as I am, or do you think I need to cool my jets because it’s only March? Let’s discuss!
