Earlier this year, Geek Native covered The London Card Show with an interview with founder Harry Reynolds. Harry’s a name in the hobby, on YouTube and TikTok, known for turning £10 into £10,000.
It was kind of Harry to make time for us, and when we get another interview, we should push our luck and see if Chief Operating Officer Katie Hughes is available. Running events is a nightmare and The London Card Show is very successful, Katie is someone worth speaking to.
International Women’s Day
Friday the 8th of March is International Women’s Day. Stop! If you’re about to whine, “When’s International Men’s Day?” it’s November 19th.
Women are an integral part of the trading card community, and the LCS team introduced us to She Scores Cards. She Scores Cards is a social media account and community from Tara and Sam, two veteran card collectors and women in the trading card community. They now specialise in women’s football cards, which, mind-bogglingly and infuriatingly, they believe only became popular enough to be a thing big enough to specialise in during 2022.
Tara told us,
As the rise in coverage and popularity of women’s sport, in particular football grows, I feel it’s important this is reflected in the sports card market. She Scores Cards are proud to be representing women in the hobby”.
This was evolution rather than revolution, as Tara added;
I initially started collecting men’s football cards after reading some articles online about the hobby and its growth in the US. It appealed as I enjoy collecting and sport. I also thought it might be a good investment as the 2026 World Cup will be held in the US and sports card collecting is bigger there.
Popularity is part of the trading card DNA. Sam explained to us that a card’s value depends on various factors, but mainly two key ones;
… the popularity of the player and the condition of the card.”
It’s going well on that front as Tara revealed a success!
I was fortunate to attend a Lionesses friendly match in Spain last year where I was able to get Millie Bright to sign a card for me. That one is staying in the collection forever.
Card shows allow She Scores Cards to complete sets and trades. Tara said;
We both love the look of cards, it’s a challenge to complete a set especially with all the parallels available. We enjoy attending the card shows and meeting new collectors. It’s fun to discover a card you’ve been looking for. There is a core group of women’s card collectors but it’s growing all the time.
In fact, The London Card Show has been mindful supporters. Harry explained why;
It’s important to create an inclusive environment where everyone feels welcomed. We always make sure there is a table for Tara and Sam at the show, as they are part of what makes The London Card Show so unique and diverse,”
