A whole 36 years after Beetlejuice was released, actor Michael Keaton is all set to reprise the role of the ghost with the most on the big screen, in Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice – and he’s just spoken out saying fans are going to love it.
The actor recently spoke to MovieWeb, where he was quoted on the following:
It is really good. And beautiful. Beautiful, you know, physically. You know what I mean? The other one was so fun and exciting visually. It’s all that, but really kind of beautiful and interestingly emotional here and there. I wasn’t ready for that, you know. Yeah, it’s great. It’s great and the cast, I mean, Catherine [O’Hara], if you thought she was funny last time, double it. She’s so funny and Justin Theroux is like, I mean, come on.
Keaton went on to share more details of the film, and what it was like to reprise his role:
It’s so fun. People keep asking me. I keep saying the same thing. I had really had a lot of fun on “The Other Guys” with Will and those guys. Adam McKay. This is right in that, you know, right in that world, but you can’t compare “Beetlejuice” to anything because it’s unique and it’s like a little piece of art, you know what I mean. It’s almost like you just want to take it, put it in a little museum and just, there’s just nothing like it, so to do it again was a little, I guess, intimidating or I was nervous about it, but I wanted to do it a long time ago. I thought, ‘I think maybe we should take another shot at this,’ and then the idea just kind of went away. No one really seemed to be that excited about it, or they just didn’t know if they, so then I lost interest, but then it started coming back and Tim and I would talk over the years about would we ever do it. If we did it, how would we do it? But it’s just so fun and I’ve seen it now, I’m gonna see it again after a couple little tweaks in the editing room and I confidently say this thing is great.
That’s high praise, and really very encouraging words from Keaton. I feel quite reassured that Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice is going to be AMAZING and I can’t wait!
Here’s the official synopsis of the film:
After an unexpected family tragedy, three generations of the Deetz family return to the small Vermont town of Winter River. Paranormal empath, Lydia Deetz, begins to see the lecherous demon Beetlejuice, who haunted her as a teenager. His plans to finally marry Lydia are given extra urgency when his dead wife comes to life and begins to stalk the Afterlife hunting for him.
