Daggerheart is an original tabletop RPG from Critical Role’s publishing arm, Darrington Press, and it will be released in 2025.
Playtesters must be 18 years or older, be able to create a character and get into the details of the game. Why? The point of the playtest is to get feedback and data. The playtest opens today.
Spenser Starke, Daggerheart’s Lead Game Designer, reminded people;
Daggerheart is not a finished product yet, and in order to get there, we need people to play it and break it. No, seriously! This phase of playtesting will help us gather the much needed information from YOU to create the best game possible, and we need your help to do that.”
There are different ways to get involved;
- At Home: Download playtest material from Daggerheart.com or DriveThruRPG.
- Digital Playtest: A character creation tool is available in partnership with Demiplane, which will run the Daggerheart NEXUS for playtesting materials.
- In-Person Playtest: Some Darrington Press Guild stores will offer physical playtesting packets to host playtesting sessions.
What may truly set Daggerheart apart is its innovative dice mechanic. When faced with critical moments, players roll a HOPE die and a FEAR die, both 12-sided. These dice represent the internal struggles of their characters, with the outcome influencing not just success or failure but also shaping the character’s narrative.
A press release noted.
This duality between hope and fear is what drives the unique character-focused stories in Daggerheart,”
Daggerheart also uses a card system, with dice, that describe what and where your character came from and their current domain and subclass.
