Mr Joel is on Kickstarter for the 10th Anniversary Edition of Cats of Catthulhu, with a funding goal of $25,000 and now with more than $40,000 pledged. There’s still three weeks on the campaign.
Cats of Catthulhu is a rules-light tabletop RPG about everyday cats defending the world. As they do. You can join in, find out more or scratch the furniture at the pitch page.
There’s a free to download Cats of Catthulhu 10th Anniversary preview on DriveThruRPG. That’s about eight pages long and includes a rules summary page.
The rules do seem pretty simple and because cats don’t do maths, there’s no maths in Cats of Catthulhu.
Firstly, players listen to what the Cat Herder says, and then they respond like a cat and when there’s a dice roll needed then players just need to roll happy cats on the dice.
It’s those specialised dice that are tempting people in the pledges.
You pick one from the five Roles in Cats of Catthulhu. Every cat you’ve ever known falls into one of these Roles, often shifting between them over the years.
- Catcrobat: The fastest around!
- Pussyfoot: Everybody loves this kitty
- Scrapper: Rough and tough
- Tiger Dreamer: Sleepy mystic that sees visions
- Twofootologist: Clever studier of human ways!
Backers at $1 get access to the pledge manager, and those at $25 will get a digital copy of the rules plus the 2014 editions. Together that comes to 256 pages or so.
It’s $49 to get the full-colour hardback of the rules and the PDF offering. However, there’s additional add-ons unlocked at this tier such as extra cat dice and a pouch, the De Felis Mysteries collection and an international option. The catch? The hardback only ships to the States.
$50, though, and the anywhere in the world option for the Cats of Catthulhu unlocks. De Felis Mysteries is there too, as an add-on, though.
There are higher tiers because at $80 De Felis Mysteries moves into the rewards, along with a character pad. dice, tray, mewples (meeple), Cat Treats for players, two bookmarks and a cat toy. At $89, that same loot tier becomes international.
All that plus a personal pet portrait are the rewards at $288. My Botvac complete with its two googly eyes is my pet, I wonder if Marvin’ qualifies here!
Mr Joel is running the campaign until April 4, and the estimated shipping for Cats of Catthulhu in August this year.
