Jenna Katerin Moran’s indie TTRPG The Far Roofs has smashed funding targets and collected more than 1,000 crowdfunding backers. There’s still two weeks left to join in.
The game is about monster-god-mysteries that have moved into cities’ roofs. PCs are those caught up in the worlds and rats that extend beyond them as a result. You can pledge on Kickstarter.
A tabletop RPG about “talking rats, god-monsters, and you” by Jenna Moran, author of the well-regarded RPGs Nobilis, Chuubo’s Marvelous Wish-Granting Engine, and Glitch and frequent contributor to the game line for Exalted.
- Unique Mechanics: A 5d6 dice pool handles core actions, while an innovative letter-tile system drives character growth and shapes the narrative. Chuubo’s Marvelous Wish-Granting Engine fans will find a refined and accessible take on its story-driven mechanics.
- Epic Campaign: Dive into a multi-year campaign written for a GM and up to 6 players.
- Quality Construction: Expect a beautiful hardcover book (8.5″ x 11″) packed with 223 content pages, including interior art. Stretch goals could add a dustjacket, bookmark ribbon, and even more concept art!
If you go up, and you run the roofs like the rats do, you’ll find the roofs getting closer and closer until eventually they merge; until you can’t see the houses any longer beneath them. If you keep going from there, you’ll discover whole landscapes that have been hiding above us: strange fairylands, magic gardens, inexplicable towers; all manner of wonders.
There are Things Suck Right Now options for people struggling, but for whom a TTRPG like this might make the world a little less grim. Over a hundred gamers have taken that option.
If life is being kinder than the first tier of digital rewards, unlock the ePub and PDF versions of The Far Roofs at $25 for backers.
There is, however, a limited edition print copy of the RPG being funded. That’s available to backers at $50, and that supports worldwide shipping although backers have to pay for that.
There are higher tiers such as Friend to the Rats at $129, which will get you a signed bookplate as well, a credit in the PDF (and perhaps others), and a thank you note.
There’s the Dedicated Friend $333 for other types of credits and a numbered bookplate (still signed) as upgrades.
The digital rewards are slated for a September 2024 release, the limited print run for November, and the Friend tiers as late as July 2025.
Kickstarter loves the project and Jenna will run it until April 2nd.
