A trailer has just dropped for the upcoming apocalyptic thriller Breathe, starring Jennifer Hudson, Milla Jovovich, Quvenzhané Wallis, Raúl Castillo, Common and Sam Worthington.
Imagine a world where the Earth is pretty much uninhabitable due to there being no oxygen, and being outside requires a mask to keep you alive. Now, imagine humans being humans, with a lack of trust, and a penchant for killing and taking what they think should belong to them.
Things like, y’know, air filtration systems… that’s pretty much what this film is. Breathe is directed by Stefon Bristol (See You Yesterday) from a script by Doug Simon (Brotherhood, Demonic).
Here’s the official synopsis:
Breathe is a heart pounding thriller set in the future. After Earth is left uninhabitable due to lack of oxygen, a mother Maya (Hudson) and her daughter Zora (Wallis) are forced to live underground, with short trips to the surface only made possible by a coveted state of the art oxygen suit made by Maya’s husband, Darius, whom she presumes to be dead. When a mysterious couple arrives claiming to know Darius and his fate, Maya tentatively agrees to let them into their bunker but these visitors are not who they claim to be ensuing in mother and daughter fighting for survival.

Now, those are some people in desperate need of some mothertruckin’ trees, donchathink?
Iono, I quite like the premise due to the precarious situation the characters are placed in. But there’s a lot of people fighting people and people just generally being the worst. It’s why we don’t deserve nice things… like oxygen.
Breathe will be released in cinemas, along with digitally, and on-demand on 26th April.
