You can grab all 83-pages of Zweihander RPG Reforged Edition: Session Zero for free. That gets you an introduction, how to play, your character’s lifepath (appropriately abbreviated) and a ‘survivors sheet’ because this is a grim game.
World of Game Design has brought Zweihander Reforged to Kickstarter, where it has passed £100,000 (close to $130,000 in US money) and has over two weeks to run.
In the game, all characters are survivors and have brushed with death and made their escape. The system uses d100, the book is an all-in-one, and the game is familiar to Pathfinder and D&D fans.
Zweihander pushes into horror, is low but not without magic (in fact, this new edition brings new spells), survival, and the supernatural. Reforged is set in a world of ambitious good and evil. People sometimes have to do cruel things to survive, and it’s laced with violence and corruption.
Reforged is a remaster of previous rules with injuries more likely, fights faster, ancestries and talents redone and with a lot more corruption. It doesn’t need a poor dice roll to start your character on the dark path; reading the wrong book can do it.
The digital edition of Zweihander Reforged unlocks as a reward for backers at $20.
The hardcover, which will have an estimated retail price of around $70, is the reward for backers at the $48 tier.
There’s a collectors edition and that’s the $75 tier. GMs can secure themselves the full toolkit at $115 and true fans can step up to $180 for the Colletor’s Kit.
The top tier, though, limited to the US, is Ultimate Fan which … er, comes with a sword! Yeah, you’re not going to be able to ship that to Scotland.
Daniel D Fox and the WOGD estimate February 2025 delivery and close the Kickstarter on the 7th of April. Zweihander RPG Reforged Edition: Session Zero is free for now, likely free forever.
