It’s been revealed that a feature film adaptation of The Sims is now in the works, with Margot Robbie attached to produce, with Kate Herron (Loki) as director.
It’s been reported that Herron will also co-write the screenplay along with Briony Redman.
This is apparently a really hot property in Hollywood at the moment, and as I type this it’s being shopped around the studios and streaming services – and it’s easy to see why, what with it being one of the most popular computer games of all time where you build your own characters and control every aspect of their lives.
I honestly have no idea why I had never considered the possibility of a Sims movie before now. It seems so obvious when you think about it! I’ve played every incarnation of the Sims, and for fans of the games, there are so many possible gags and Easter eggs to play around with!
Think of it; the weird language the characters use so you don’t know exactly what they’re saying – I can imagine that would be something the players get whereas the viewers of the film may get the translation (otherwise, it’d be a pretty hard to follow film!). Or there’s all the ways you can kill your Sims – will they do something with that? What about the massive swarm of flies? And the way they have to run for their car to work?!
Soooooo many possibilities.
I think Robbie’s been extremely savvy to jump on board this project, and I can’t wait to see what’s going to come out of it! The story could be anything at the moment, which draws similarities to Barbie.
We’ll have more info for you on this… when it’s available!
What do you think of the possibility of a Sims movie? Are you already invested in the idea, or are you wary? Let me know in the comments.
