More details have emerged for Todd Phillips’ Joker: Folie à Deux, and you may be pleased, not so pleased, or indifferent to the fact it’s going to be “mostly a jukebox musical” similar to that of Mamma Mia! and Moulin Rouge.
It was reported in Variety that the film will feature reinterpretations of at least 15 “very well-known” songs, one of which being “That’s Entertainment” from 1953’s The Band Wagon.
So, that’s good to know. I’m a little on the fence about jukebox musicals, because they can either be done really well (like Mamma Mia!) or… less so (like Moulin Rouge, in my opinion).
The good news is that audience responses to Joker: Folie à Deux have been pretty great so far, which means I remain hopeful that this is going to be a fantastic watch!
As for the plot, we still know diddly squat, aside from the story itself is set in Arkham Asylum and will continue where the story left off from the first film, with Joaquin Phoenix returning as Arthur Fleck, and Lady Gaga assuming the role of Harley Quinn.
I suppose we can wait until we get more details on Joker: Folie á Deux, but we can tell you it’s set to be released on 4th October.
What do you think about the news that Joker: Folie á Deux is going to be a jukebox musical? Let me know in the comments.
