Who knew a “creative burp” could become a pop culture phenomenon? That happened with Knights of the Dinner Table (KoDT), Jolly Blackburn’s brainchild.
Back in 1990, Blackburn was putting together issue #2 of his small-press gaming magazine, Shadis. He needed some filler content, so he whipped up a comic strip featuring a group of role-playing gamers.
Little did Blackburn know, he’d tapped into a goldmine of relatable humour. Readers saw themselves and their own gaming groups reflected in the antics of the KoDT crew. The strip quickly became a fan favourite, overshadowing everything else in Shadis. The unexpected success took on a life of its own, with the creation now dictating the creator’s path.
Fast forward 30 years, and Blackburn is still going strong, writing and illustrating the KoDT comic strip for a dedicated monthly magazine. Since then, KoDT has expanded its reach, appearing in seven magazines and limited-series comic books. But the core message has remained constant: outsiders and loners can find camaraderie and acceptance at the gaming table.
Now there are two Bundle of Holding offers for Knights of the Dinner Table and both the 2018 bundle, making a return, and the new KoDT Trouble 6 deals run until April 22.
