A very fun trailer has just been released for Chris Pine‘s directorial debut, Poolman. Pine co-wrote the script alongside Ian Gotler, and also stars in this zany-looking ensemble comedy, also featuring Annette Bening, Danny DeVito, Jennifer Jason Leigh, DeWanda Wise, Stephen Tobolowsky, Clancy Brown, John Ortiz, and Ray Wise.
This film was shot in 2022 during the pandemic, and is due to be released in May, having initially premiered at the 2023 Toronto Film Festival to… a lukewarm response from critics. In fact, some people walked out.
Follows a hapless dreamer and would-be philosopher who spends his days looking after the pool of the Tahitian Tiki apartment block in sunny LA. When he uncovers the greatest water heist, he does what he can to protect his precious city.
The film has been described as “a stoner riff on the noir classic Chinatown“. But I actually think it looks like it might be a lot of fun – at least, that’s what I’m getting from this trailer. You can check it out below.
Poolman will be released in selected cinemas on 10th May.
