Mana Project Studios, the people behind Cowboy Bebop the RPG, have a new tabletop game in which you’re not a pathetic human but a cosmic horror.
As a Lovecraftian thing in this RPG you get to battle to control, or destroy, the world. As you might expect, gamers are taking to this pitch well and the €10,000 stretch goal has been met several times over.
Elder Mythos uses shared worldbuilding or, if that’s not your thing, scenarios. Either way, players create the story of cosmic horror.
The player characters are named Lovecraftian entities such as Cthulhu or Hastur, each with a purpose and cults and priests of dark power to wield as well.
This is a TTRPG with a PvP element, and while the Elder Mythos things rarely take the field, the conflict is encouraged and the GM/Eldritch Master also able to ramp the drama up.
The game engine is actually the Year Zero System, hacked, of course, to suit cosmic horror.
Elder Mythos is a game designed to be played collectively at the table, without preparation from the Eldritch Master. Using one of the 5 Scenarios, or through collaborative worldbuilding, each element of the game world, alongside the triggering main events, will be outlined rapidly, in an easy and intuitive process.
Backers who sacrifice €15 or more will get a PDF of the game, which can be in Italian or English. A retail release is expected and will be more expensive.
Backers at €50 will also get a hardcover version of the game and access to the add-ons.
The Unspeakable Box of goodies, such as a GM screen, cards and dice, is added at €95.
There’s no deluxe or limited edition, at least not yet, but there is a retailer tier.
Mana Project Studios are running the Kickstarter until April 24th and are forecasting the end of the world, or perhaps just the delivery of the Elder Mythos TTRPG, in June 2025.
