SoulMuppet Publishing dangerously states they’ve found most other zero-prep TTRPG adventures bland. They can do better, they imply, with the launch of the Gardens of Ynn Kickstarter, and thousands of gamers agree.
The point-crawl adventure set in an endless maze of gardens has raised over £70,000, smashing the target, and runs until May 3rd. You can find out more about the project on the pitch page.
The game randomly creates a labyrinth alien and extra dimension garden for players to explore with surreal monsters and strange vistas.
Gardens of Ynn has no system but leans towards, including monster stats, for ‘Old School Systems’ and so it is one step from 5e. The main challenge in converting to D&D’s rule engine is the weirdness of the monsters in Ynn.
Those monsters include rust-bumblebees, floral spiders, bonsai turtles and rose-maidens.
The book also comes with the systems necessary for generating locations, such as fleshy gardens and hothouses, plus rules for dream-viruses, treasure, mutations and a class of human survivors who have adapted to the dangerous and odd garden dimension.
The designer is Emily “cavegirl” Allen who has worked on The Stygian Library, which is getting a matching reprint as part of this Kickstarter, Dungeon Bitches and The Yellow Curtain.
This Kickstarter will remaster the adventure Emmy originally wrote in 2018, with new art, layout and an offset print run. The book is written by Emmy Allen (The Stygian Library, Dungeon Bitches, Esoteric Enterprises) and interior illustrated by RiotBones (The House Doesn’t Always Win, The AO-33 Nebula, Inevitable).
As a thank-you reward, backers who pledge £15 will receive a digital copy of the Gardens of Ynn.
At £30, and with hundreds of backers, the hardcover of Gardens of Ynn is added to the rewards along with the PDF.
The Stygian Library is getting a reprint and backers at £55 will get digital and hardcover copies of both games.
SoulMuppet Publishing estimates the game will be shipping by October 2024.
