Publisher Obvious Mimic has previous success with solo adventures and is back on Kickstarter with The Secret of Oki Island.
This whimsical and deadly (their words) 5e adventure is all about swashbuckling and hidden treasures, which, together, are a siren call to persuade more than 1,000 backers to pledge support. The campaign runs until May 17th.
The pitch is simple as with The Secret of Oki Island you can play D&D by yourself which is ideal if you can’t find a local gaming group, you want some alone time, you want to practice D&D, you’re in the military and stuck with limited free time or you just want as much adventure in your lunch break as possible.
In The Secret of Oki Island you can play your own 5e character, take your own path, defeat monsters and progress with loot and experience as you might with a group of characters.
The game mechanics will be familiar to anyone playing D&D 5e. From skill checks and saving throws to attack rolls and spell damage, everything about The Secret of Oki Island is designed to give you the same thrill as a session at the DM’s table, but now you can enjoy it wherever and whenever you want.
Then re-play the adventure to explore different options or see how different characters will perform. Every choice you make in this solo adventure has a consequence of some kind, so take each new character down their own path.
At CA$25, which is about £15, backers get a digital copy of The Secret of Oki Island as a thank you, plus access to a host of optional add-ons.
Backers who increase their pledge to CA$35 also get the softcover version of the solo adventure.
There is a hardcover option and those backers who pledge CA$59 will get that, as well as the PDF+ePub, as a reward.
Alternatively, at CA$65, backers can get digital versions of The Secret of Oki Island plus Obvious Mimic’s previous successes, The Wolves of Langton and The Crystals of Z’leth.
The softcovers of those three books plus the digital Oki are the reward at CA$94 and the hardcovers at CA$139.
Obvious Mimic estimates that delivery of many of these tiers will be as soon as July this year.
