I joined the fight when I took on the challenge of reviewing this incredible Attack on Titan makeup collection volume 1 by Game Beauty… I know, it’s such a hard life being a Geek reviewer!
Seriously, I must be one of the few people to never have watched Attack on Titan until this fabulous makeup collection came out, so when I was given the chance to review it, I decided to take on a double challenge of a) watching the series to make sure it meant something to me and b) trying out this gorgeous collection.
Do I have any regrets? Absolutely not.
The presentation
I covered the news of this collection going to pre-order back in February, but it honestly felt like my birthday or something when this beautifully presented package showed up at my door – it was also a bonus because I’d completely forgotten it was coming.
The box itself looks fantastic, and something I’m going to want to keep. The products inside are so well designed, with each eye palette coming in its own tidy little box featuring the district its inspired by. The lip glosses are based on four different characters, which are shown in beautiful detail.
Seeing the presentation in real life is something else, and it really feels like a collector’s item that you *almost* don’t want to use… almost. But looking at this colours made me SO excited to jump straight in!
Watching the show
Like I said above, I wanted to do this collection justice, and therefore before I jumped right in, I had to start watching the show. And now I’m… kind of addicted. For someone who had no idea what to expect, the first episode was INTENSE. And quite brutal.
I had many questions, like: What are those things? Why are some of them different? Why are some of them f****** HUGE?! What are those people going to do if… oh damn. I began following these characters on a journey, and became compelled to see it through with them.
Moreover, I began to get a sense of their resolve, and determination, which is really the true spirit of the show and exactly what this makeup collection is all about representing. The music’s pretty cool, too.
But, this is predominantly a makeup review, so onwards!
Eye palettes
Each of the eye palettes hold four different colours, which together represent the three main walls; Maria, Rose, and Sina. They’re all highly pigmented and possess strong, stunning colours that you can’t really go wrong with.
My favourite was the rose palette, just because I felt most drawn to the colours – the iridescent shadow is so, so versatile, and I love the turquoise and coral. I had fun combining the colours from this palette together, and the resulting looks got me many compliments – in person as well as on social media.
Sina was my second favourite, as again I was drawn to the strong, warm colours. Again, I was able to really go all in with the gold and orange hues. The mango and copperish colour really stood out to me, and combining them was fun.
The descriptions of these palettes are as follows:
Rose Wall Shadow Quad: Where defiance blossoms with vibrant spirit. Embrace fiery reds, calming turquoise, and a whimsical coral red with a citrine shift – reflecting the spirit of rebellion, freedom, and the bonds that unite us.
Maria Wall Shadow Quad: Where unwavering resolve meets boundless hope. Experience a spectrum of cornflower blue, shimmering baby blue, sheer duochrome lemon yellow, and deep walnut brown – shades reflecting the strength, resilience, and hope that sustain humanity’s first line.
Sina Wall Shadow Quad: Where wisdom meets boundless wonder. Uncover a palette of deep brown, vibrant mango tango orange, and shimmering orange with an earth brown shift – symbolizing the enduring strength, relentless curiosity, and dreams that light the way forward.
Sina was the palette I was least drawn to, mainly because I’m less into blues – which is funny because if they’d been purples, I’d have been all over that one first – and I’m a little clueless when it comes to browns. I definitely need to try experimenting with the Sina palette more.
Lip glosses
Each lip gloss represents a main Attack on Titan character, and I’m so glad I took the time to watch the show so that this means something more to me than simply ‘oh, this one’s red’.
Saying that, I do tend to naturally hover towards red, so of course the Eren and Mikasa lip glosses appealed to me the most! When mixing it up with the eyeshadow palettes, however, there’s definitely a time and a place for the lighter Levi and Armin lip glosses.
All of these lip glosses are easy to apply, and although I’m more of a matte lipstick gal – opting for longevity over shiny – I felt like these really held up, and stayed put for a very decent amount of time.
The descriptions for the lip glosses are as follows:
Eren Yeager Lip Gloss: Channel the fury of the Attack Titan with a bold brick red gloss, reflecting his burning passion for freedom.
Mikasa Ackerman Lip Gloss: Radiate Mikasa’s unwavering loyalty with a timeless ruby red gloss, symbolizing her fierce spirit and unwavering dedication.
Levi Ackerman Lip Gloss: Exude Levi’s captivating allure and meticulous efficiency with a unique bittersweet shimmer red, flecked with silver sparkles for a touch of unexpected shine.
Armin Arlert Lip Gloss: Capture Armin’s strategic wit and captivating intellect with an almost-almond red shade, shimmering with golden flecks that reflect his cunning plans and unwavering hope.
Will there be a volume 2?
Oh, Game Beauty, if you’re listening – I really hope there will be a volume 2!
I really enjoyed using this makeup collection and testing out different looks, but I have to say the quality was right up there with the likes of Urban Decay – which I’m also a huge fan of (and yes, I bought the Prince and Game of Thrones eye palettes, so themed collections are right up my street).
*whispers* Maybe a volume 2 could even include some purple, and more greens. If so, I’d snap it right up.
In summary
I really rate this makeup collection, as I had a lot of fun using it and the colours are just fabulous. I’m new to Game Beauty – it’s my first time trying any of their products – and I’m really impressed by the quality of these products. It’s made me want to try some more. *hint hint*
