13th Age is a fantasy TTRPG that looks at what earlier versions of D&D did, learns from them and makes bold, different choices.
Now 13th Age is getting its own 2nd edition, one that’s backwards compatible, and it is smashing targets on Kickstarter.
If the campaign succeeds, two core books, a limited edition option, a GM screen, a giant escalation dice, an iconic dice, a velvet map of the Dragon Empire, and a custom dice set will be on offer.
There’s a free to download preview, too.
13th Age 2nd edition (2E) presents a streamlined d20 combat system designed to highlight every character’s strengths. Revised class abilities offer players a wider range of tactical choices, while unpredictable monster mechanics challenge players.
Beyond combat, 13th Age 2E emphasises collaborative storytelling. Whether your group prefers epic adventures or character-driven narratives, the system accommodates diverse playstyles.
Each character’s “One Unique Thing” provides a foundation for personalised stories, and background bonuses to skill checks enrich character development with each roll.
13th Age 2nd Edition offers a unique blend of tactical combat and collaborative storytelling for a fulfilling tabletop roleplaying experience.
Pelgrane Press have a £1 tier, letting fans access the pledge manager later. That’s a bold move because those £1 pledges don’t contribute much to the campaign’s success, although it could mean dozens of extra sales at the last minute.
Backers at £25 will get the Player’s Handbook 2e in digital form plus that pledge manager access and some add-ons.
Gamers who want a digital version of the Player’s Handbook and the Gamemaster’s Guide from Kickstarter must pledge £40 or more.
At £55, backers get the 2e drafts, both PDFs and the Player’s Handbook as a hardback.
Then, at £100, backers get the PDFs, drafts and the slipcase set of hardbacks.
The higher tiers offer extra: £125 ads in the Gamemaster’s Screen, £250 when the velvet Dragon Empire map, 7-dice set, icon dice, and chunky escalation dice appear.
There’s a limited £400 tier backers get all the loot from before but also get to associate themselves with a living icon in the game by helping with an icon organisation for the game. Plus, these backers get a credit.
£600 backers also get a credit and get the One Unique Thing they’ve had most fun previously with in a 13th Age game and get it listed into the Player’s Handbook. Alternatively, £800 backers get an Icon story crafted for them and into the game.
Other tiers have sold out. Pelgrane Press estimates delivery of 13th Age 2nd edition for August next year but, well before that, on June 6th, the Kickstarter closes.
