The Sons of the Singularity are an indie RPG publishing house that’s been successful enough to bring their keystone game, The Sassoon Files, back to Kickstarter for a second edition and shatter funding goals with it.
The Sassoon Files is a 1920s campaign of 7+ scenarios for Call of Cthulhu’s 7th edition. You can see progress on Kickstarter.
The Sassoon Files offer a deep dive into the vibrant and tumultuous world of 1920s Shanghai. This historical setting is brought to life by exploring its diverse factions and their power struggles.
Political tension simmers as the Communists and Nationalists engage in a dangerous game of cat and mouse. Amidst the chaos, Jewish tycoon Victor Sassoon emerges as a beacon of hope, offering aid to those in need.
The city’s underbelly thrives, with Triad societies competing to control its vices. Meanwhile, the looming threat of Japanese invasion casts a shadow over the vibrant metropolis.
Beyond the historical events, The Sassoon Files delves into the enigmatic world of the Mythos, an otherworldly force that influences events from the shadows. Local factions, driven by their own agendas, seek to harness this power, adding an intriguing layer of mystery and danger to the narrative.
The second edition adds four new scenarios, doubling the content, expands the Shanghai and Nanjing settings, weaves in threeplayer factions, and adds more art, more antagonists and dangerous Mythos.
The bon vivant Victor Sassoon trades correspondence with Doctor Henry Armitage. They share a common goal and modus operandi. Victor fights to keep his empire safe, but he also fights for a Shanghai free from Mythos influence. Victor has gathered around him professors, detectives, criminals and other problem solvers to mount a defense against a rising tide.
Backers who pledge $24 or more, about £19, will receive a shoutout, The Sassoon Files 2e in PDF and additions.
Those backers who find $59 to pledge, with shipping to pay later, will also get The Sassoon Files 2e hardcover.
The Keepers Kit is added at $118.
The Sons of the Singularity estimate the project’s delivery in October 2024 and will run the crowdfunding campaign until June 10th.
