Can you sell sleep? You can certainly sell sleep cures. This blogger has mild sleep apnea; perhaps it’s just snoring, but a close friend has terrible sleep apnea and, without a machine to keep him alive at night, might die.
So, when CPAP, a leading retailer of sleep apnea machines, got in touch, I paid attention. CPAP had been examining the games sold in 2024, referenced studies from the National Library of Medicine (US) and used BPM rates to work out the best computer games to play before bed
You see, a BPM between 60 and 80 is ideal for relaxing, so it’s best to get ready for sleep.
Top 10 Worst Games to Play before Bed in 2024
Rank | Game | Song | BPM | # of Levels |
1 | Helldivers 2 | A cup of Liber-Tea | 160 | 150 |
2 | Dragon’s Dogma 2 | Original Theme Song | 160 | 18 |
3 | Call of Duty: Warzone | Original Theme Song | 133 | 100 |
4 | Destiny 2 | Journey | 142 | 30 |
5 | Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth | The Four | 160 | 14 |
6 | Apex Legends | Original Theme Song | 120 | 2,000 |
7 | Princess Peach Showtime! | Stella’s Ribbon | 135 | 30 |
8 | Madden 24 | Goated | 123 | 61 |
9 | Tekken 8 | Storm Rising | 138 | 16 |
10 | Final Fantasy VII Rebirth | No Promises to Keep | 140 | 14 |
High-intensity games like Helldivers 2 and Dragon’s Dogma 2, known for their fast-paced and numerous levels, are not ideal for pre-sleep gaming in 2024. Call of Duty Warzone, Destiny 2, and Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth also rank among the least sleep-friendly due to their high BPM soundtracks (133-160) and extensive level structures (14-100 levels).
For a more relaxing pre-bedtime experience, consider the 19th-century Japanese combat game Rise of the Ronin. Its slower pace and fewer levels make it a better choice for winding down before sleep.

Dr. Dan Gartenberg, Sleep Health Advisor at CPAP.com, told the press:
Intensive gaming before bed may negatively affect your sleep. The blue light exposure, plus the mental and physical stimulation of video games can make it difficult to fall asleep. While some video games can be relaxing, the key is balance and timing. Playing video games for too long may interfere with your circadian rhythm, also known as your sleep-wake cycle.
Furthermore, games that cause your dopamine to spike, like first-person shooters, may be more harmful to falling asleep than slower-paced games. Additionally, games that are particularly scary or stressful may hinder sleep quality by increasing nightmares and decreasing the amount of time spent in deep sleep.
If you find playing video games relaxing, try to keep your screen brightness low, consider using a red-light filter or smart light, and avoid playing too close to bedtime. While some individuals may not be largely impacted by late-night gaming, it’s best to keep your screen time to a minimum in the hour before bed.As you take a look at the list above, keep in mind that it’s always best to seek the opinion of a sleep doctor or specialist if you have questions, as these results have not been scientifically proven to either help or hinder your overall sleep quality.”
