Tome of Terror: London is a stand-alone adventure set in Victorian London inspired by classic horror. It’s suitable for gamers aged 10 and up, though.
The book contains dice and QR codes, is designed to be played more than once, and while it can be soloed, the creator, Oliver McNeil, recommends playing with friends. You can see progress on Kickstarter.
The QR codes link to sounds and other multi-media experiences and Tome of Terror: London uses cards and maps. Players have investigator characters, each with their own stats, to explore the dark side of London.
The Storymaster’s Tales website shows what the experience can be like.
Despite the horror aspect of the book, Oliver and Storymasters have a reputation for kid-appropriate RPGs. There’s a range on Amazon if you need something now rather than wait for Tome of Terror: London to finish.
Backers at £13 get the Tome of Terror: London cards, which means they don’t get the book, but that can be picked up from Amazon. The cards come in a glossy double tuck-box, with 50 story cards and 28 reward cards.
The next tier is £15, which gets backers a signed softback copy of the book, and at £25, backers get the signed hardback.
The combo of Tone of Terror: London cards and signed softback unlocks for backers at £28, the hardback at £38.
A £70 tier includes the book and cards for Tome of Terror: Transylvania plus London.
Oliver McNeil estimates an October 2024 fulfilment and is running the Kickstarter until Friday, the 21st of June.
