The Juice is loose with this new promo photo from Tim Burton’s Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, with Michael Keaton looking every bit like our beloved Ghost with the Most.
The image, via Empire, accompanied Keaton discussing his “surreal” experience of once again stepping into the role of Beetlejuice after such a long hiatus.
Keaton said: “There’s been so much merchandising of it, I had to drop back to where it started. I had to go, ‘What was my unusual imagination even thinking about when I was developing it in the first place?’ As opposed to seeing a coffee mug or a golf-club cover [adorned with Betelgeuse’s face].
Speaking of the experience, he went on to say: “That was f–king weird. To be honest with you – I’m being very frank – it was off-putting, to look and go, ‘I don’t want to look like all these little things, f–k that – what was the thing that started this?’”
As for the movie itself, Keaton spoke very positively, acknowledging: “I absolutely love this thing. And I don’t [usually] talk like that. I unabashedly love this. It was not easy to pull off, and I think we did it in spades.”
I absolutely love this image, there’s just so much character, with a nice photobomb from another familiar character from the original movie.
Burton has weighed in on what it was like to work with Keaton: “It was like he was possessed by a demon, because he just went right back into it.”
Catherine O’Hara, who plays Lydia Deetz, also said: “It was insane, Insane. It was like an animal with a gun had just walked into the room. To watch him physically change and appear and Michael Keaton to be gone, and for me to be dealing with this Betelgeuse guy… it blew my mind.”
Here’s the official synopsis for Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice:
After an unexpected family tragedy, three generations of the Deetz family return home to Winter River. Still haunted by Beetlejuice, Lydia’s life is turned upside down when her rebellious teenage daughter, Astrid, discovers the mysterious model of the town in the attic and the portal to the Afterlife is accidentally opened.
With trouble brewing in both realms, it’s only a matter of time until someone says Beetlejuice’s name three times and the mischievous demon returns to unleash his very own brand of mayhem.
I’m so excited about this movie! I’ll be one of the first at the cinema when the film is out on 6th September.
