Tips for getting the most out of UK Games Expo
The UK Games Expo (UKGE) is the largest hobby game convention in the UK, offering a vast array of tabletop games, events, tournaments, and activities. To make the most of your experience, here are some recommendations for preparing:
- Buy Tickets in Advance: Purchase your tickets online before the event (although this does not entirely avoid queues) and secure your entry. You can choose from single-day or weekend passes.
- Plan Your Itinerary: Browse the event schedule and exhibitor list to identify the games, demos, tournaments, panels, or workshops most interesting. Prioritise the ones you don’t want to miss and check for last-minute changes.
- Comfortable Footwear: Be prepared to walk and stand for extended periods as the event is spread across multiple halls. Wear comfortable shoes to prevent sore feet.
- Bring a Bag: A backpack or tote bag can be handy for carrying your purchases, snacks, water bottle, and any other essentials you might need. Giant bags are both popular to bring but unpopular with people near you.
- Cash and Card: While many vendors accept card payments, it’s always good to have some cash on hand for smaller purchases or in case of any technical glitches. Equally, some larger vendors will only accept card.
- Snacks and Water: While there are food and drink options available at the venue, bringing your own snacks and water can be a cost-effective and convenient way to stay hydrated and energised.
- Open Mind: Be open to trying new games and genres. UKGE is a great opportunity to discover hidden gems and expand your gaming horizons.
Meet and Greet: Don’t hesitate to chat with fellow gamers, designers, or exhibitors. Queues are an excellent place to strike up a conversation. UKGE is a social event, and you might make new friends or learn interesting things. - Have Fun: Most importantly, remember to have fun! UKGE is a celebration of gaming, so relax, enjoy the atmosphere, and embrace the experience.
