We’ve not had much to share about the upcoming Peaky Blinders movie currently in development by Netflix… until now. Cillian Murphy has broken his silence and has confirmed he’ll be returning as the iconic Tommy Shelby.
Netflix took to Twitter to share a photo of the script, confirming that Murphy is definitely stepping back into the role, along with a note from the actor himself. It reads:
It seems like Tommy Shelby wasn’t finished with me…It is very gratifying to be recollaborating with Steven Knight and Tom Harper on the film version of Peaky Blinders. This is one for the fans.
I’m torn about this statement. I like the idea of there being a Peaky Blinders movie, and the idea of it being ‘for the fans’… but I also don’t want it to be a load of fan service, y’know?
I’ll also be shocked if Tommy Shelby hasn’t used up his nine lives by this point, and the movie ends in that bleak midwinter the Shelbys are always talking about.
As for what the movie will entail, Knight previously said of the plot: “The film, I know exactly what it’s about. And I know what two stories it’s going to tell. What will happen after that, I want that to depend on the film. For all we know somebody is going to pop out – I think I know who it’s going to be.”
Hmmm. I’m intrigued as to what Knight’s going to do with this, so bring it on, Netflix – BY ORDER OF THE PEAKY BLINDERS!!!
Are you excited about the upcoming Peaky Blinders movie? Does the world need more Tommy Shelby? Let me know in the comments.
